“Already received” is the sum of any earlier installments for this same order or invoice, useful for a second or third payment receipt on the same job. Leave it at 0 for a one-off payment.

Signature

Upload a signature image, PNG works best with a transparent background, or just type a name. Checking “computer-generated” replaces the signature line on the PDF with a standard no-signature-required note instead.

About This Tool

This payment receipt generator draws a real document, not a screenshot

This payment receipt generator is built with jsPDF, drawing text, lines and your logo directly onto a PDF canvas at exact millimetre coordinates. The text in the downloaded file is real, selectable text, not a rasterised image, so a payer can copy the receipt number or search their downloads folder for it later. Nothing you type is uploaded first, the whole receipt is assembled in your browser’s memory the instant you click download.

What makes this different from a plain invoice

A receipt confirms money already changed hands, an invoice requests money that hasn’t. So on top of the usual business and payer fields, this tool adds a payment mode field with common presets, cash, bank transfer, credit or debit card, UPI, PayPal, cheque, money order, plus an “Other” option for anything not on the list, a reference or transaction ID field for the payer’s bank statement, and a payment status of Paid in Full, Partial Payment or Refunded. Choosing Partial Payment leaves the amount paid field open to edit, and the receipt calculates and prints the remaining balance due automatically. For a job paid off in several installments, an “Already received” field tracks what came in on earlier receipts, so this receipt can show a running total, this payment, everything received before it, and what’s still outstanding, all on one document.

Amount in words, spelled out correctly for the currency

Many receipts, especially for rent, cash payments or anywhere a printed receipt might be scrutinised, are expected to spell the amount out in words as a safeguard against a number being altered after the fact. Checking “Show amount paid in words” writes it out automatically, using thousand and million grouping for most currencies, and lakh and crore grouping for the Indian Rupee, Pakistani Rupee, Bangladeshi Taka, Nepalese Rupee and Sri Lankan Rupee, matching how those amounts are actually spoken and written in those currencies.

Portrait or landscape, with the item table adapting to fit

Portrait keeps a compact, standard A4 receipt layout. Switching to landscape doesn’t just rotate the page, the line-item table gains an extra Note column and a wider Description column, useful for receipts that need a short explanation on each line, a rent period, a service date range, an invoice number being settled, without cramming it into the description field itself.

How the totals and balance are calculated

Line amountQuantity × Rate, recalculated live as you type.
Discount & taxDiscount is subtracted from the subtotal first, then tax is calculated on what’s left and added, the order most accounting software uses.
Balance dueTotal minus amount paid. Selecting “Paid in Full” sets amount paid to the total automatically; you can still edit it for a partial payment.
Nothing you type here is saved anywhere, not in a database, not in your browser’s storage. Refreshing the page clears the form.

Where this gets used

A landlord issuing a rent receipt generator style document each month, a freelancer confirming a client’s cash payment, a small shop handing over a printable receipt template for a walk-in customer, or anyone who needs a free receipt generator for a one-off payment without signing up for accounting software.

Common Questions

FAQ: Free Payment Receipt Generator

An invoice requests a payment that hasn’t happened yet. This payment receipt generator confirms a payment that already has, with a payment mode, a reference ID, a payment status and a balance due for partial payments, none of which a standard invoice needs.

Yes, choose “Other (custom)” from the Payment mode dropdown and a text field appears for anything not on the preset list, Venmo, Zelle, a wire transfer reference, or a payment app specific to your country.

It detects the currency and switches grouping accordingly, thousand and million for most currencies, lakh and crore for the Indian Rupee and a handful of neighbouring South Asian currencies, matching how amounts are actually written in each.

The page rotates to a wider layout, and the line-item table gains an extra Note column plus a wider Description column, useful for receipts that need a short explanation on each line.

Yes, set Payment status to “Partial Payment”, edit the Amount paid field to whatever was actually received, and the receipt calculates and prints the remaining balance due automatically.

Yes, use the “Already received” field to enter everything paid on earlier receipts for the same order, then “This payment” for what’s coming in now. The receipt shows both, a running received-to-date total, and the balance still outstanding.

No. Nothing is stored in a database or in browser storage. The form only exists in memory while the page is open, closing or refreshing clears it.
